NVIDIA Starts Rolling Out Android Nougat To The SHIELD Tablet and SHIELD Tablet K1

After updating the SHIELD TV box with Android 7.0 Nougat with NVIDIA's SHIELD Experience 5.0 update a while back, NVIDIA has  now decided to bring the latest Nougat goodies to its Android tablets as well. Both the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet and Tablet K1 are now receiving the Android 7.0 based update via an over the air update as confirmed by the company on its official site.

The SHIELD Experience 5.0 update introduces a plethora of new features and improvements for both tablets. The update adds support for multi-window mode to run two apps simultaneously, Quick Switch for quickly jumping between apps, bundled notifications, Quick Reply, and Unicode 9 emojis among other enhancements. The update also adds support for the SHIELD Controller which was launched with the SHIELD TV (2017).

Other notable improvements include a Data Saver mode to limit apps from consuming data when on a cellular network, JIT compiler which should help reduce app installation time, and improved Doze mode which now kicks in right after the screen goes off rather than waiting for the device to become stationary. The update also comes with the December security patches. Finally, the update also introduces a new loyalty program for the SHIELD owners called SHIELD Reward Program.

If you're sporting either a SHIELD Tablet or SHIELD K1 Tablet, you should be receiving the update in the coming days. Generally, OTA roll outs take some time to reach all devices, so don't be concerned if you haven't received an update notification yet.
