The LineageOS team has just released a new changelog summarizing the most important changes made to the popular third-party custom ROM in recent weeks. Originally made every two weeks, the changelog is now being released only when the team deems that there has been enough changes to warrant a blog post. That appears to be the case now, as changelog #14 brings some important changes as well as an official update on the status of LineageOS 15.0 and yet another expansion of the already gigantic device roster.
The spotlight of the last few weeks, this time around, is the Lineage Updater app as it has been rewritten from the ground up to fix some long-standing issues with OTA updates. The PrivacyGuard feature has also received a complete user interface overhaul to make it easier for users to control permissions. AudioFX, which is LineageOS's system-wide audio adjustment solution, has received capabilities to control reverb effect.
Owners of certain AMOLED screen phones running LineageOS may be happy to know that the latest builds bring burn-in protection features which shifts the position of the status bar and navigation bar icons every minute in order to help prevent burn-in on these areas. According to the actual code, it appears that the status bar and nav bar icons move by 3dp horizontally and 1dp vertically. This new feature can be found under Display settings.
The September security patches have been included which fixes the dreaded BlueBorne vulnerability. Which brings us to our next point: additional devices added to the LineageOS build roster. If you have a device that hasn't officially received the September security update, then you may be interested in flashing LineageOS to protect your device from BlueBorne. We expect to hear more about LineageOS soon enough, especially with version 15.0 on the way. LineageOS 15.0, which is the next version based on Android 8.0 Oreo, is indeed being worked on as the team has officially announced. However, there's no timeline on when official builds of 15.0 will release. Users should just wait until the newest branch is ready for release time. If you want to stay informed about all things LineageOS, be sure to follow the LineageOS blog and the XDA Portal.
