ZTE is back in business, and the ZTE Axon 9 appears to be in the works yet again. According to a report from MyDrivers, the company is sending out media invites to a ZTE Axon 9 Pro launch event, complete with an official render directly from them too. The device is to be showcased August 30th, a day before IFA in Berlin starts.
First and foremost, the existence of a "Pro" edition suggests the existence of a regular ZTE Axon 9. That could mean we're getting two devices from the company, with one having higher tiered specifications. The Pro version, as we can see, has a dual camera setup and a notch which looks awfully like the one on the iPhone X. These are two hallmark traits of a flagship released in 2018, so it's not the most unique of smartphones just yet. Coupled with that, it's pretty likely that we'll see the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip in tow, given that it's the fastest SoC in an Android phone available to date. Much of what the Axon 9 Pro can offer will be through its software and the price, but it'll be very hard for ZTE to beat Xiaomi's Poco F1 or the OnePlus 6.
The ZTE Axon 9 Pro isn't the only phone we expect to see around IFA 2018 either. It's possible that we'll see the Sony Xperia XZ3 alongside an announcement of the HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC that'll eventually power the Huawei Mate 20. Admittedly neither of these are confirmed to launch at the event, but IFA is one of the biggest technology events of the year and both Sony and Huawei have events planned for IFA. Smartphone manufacturers tend to announce something at or around this event. We're not sure what else to expect from the ZTE Axon 9 Pro, though. The press image does appear to suggest that it will have a decent camera, given that (presumably) that's what's being shown in the photo above. It's great to see the company back in business though, and we can't wait to see what they have in store for us.
