Hi!
Loooooong time on-and-off lurker here.
In fact, I'm pretty sure I must have had an account some time ago, since I recall asking for a recommendation when I first bought my lovely Nexus 7 (2012), and I'm pretty sure I bought it on your marketplace (Does that still exist? What is it called?). OH, and that was a really, really good recommendation! :o
I'm on my sesquiennial Android-update mission, and things are more... difficult this time. It looks like my loverly tablet is finally getting long in the tooth, without official stock images being released for it any more.
I'm rambling so I'll get to the point:
I believe I'm in the right forum for if I want an unofficial update for my "grouper": http://ift.tt/1NKmcrY
In this forum, there's a sticky that says posts are supposed to be labeled:
But:
1. No one really does that, they just kind of [THROW][*WHATEVER*][TEAM ››th3y ‹‹] want [12A3o5b+fish]-SEMIOFFICIAL in a bunch of brackets.
2. What I see are basically (mostly) a bunch of what seem to be a bunch of slight variations on pretty bare AOSP 6.0.1 builds, each with a — I don't know what to call this — (team? | person? | handle? | name?) like:
- nAOSProm
- ★ The Pure Nexus Project ★
- OrionOS
- Dirty Unicorns
as well as a few I've head of, like CyanogenMod.
They all actually seem to make their builds sound pretty good, and I thought I made a pretty good choice on my first run, but everything got very crashy very quickly. gApps wouldn't take and it was downhill from there (...which is another question for another thread...).
So basically:
How might one assess the quality of all these builds / build [teams?], without having flash each one and find out? Is there a reputation database for these groups anywhere? [and FWIW, the image I chose the first time *was* marked "XDA: DEVDB" ].
Basically, I'm looking for a stable image that I can get relatively painlessly into a somewhat similar state as my rock solid Android 5 stock-based image I've been using for the last year. How do I pick where to start? What would you pick?
Cheers and thank you!
